Have your say on the Colston Hall’s new name
In 2020, when the Colston Hall reopens its main auditorium and other spaces within the historic venue following a £48.8m refurbishment, it will have a brand new name.
Bristol Music Trust (BMT), the charity that runs Colston Hall, are now inviting the public to have their say on what this name should be.
An online survey, a series of community consultation days, and a number of artistic projects and events are all taking place to help contribute ideas not just for the venie’s new name but also its role in the city.

A consultation process has already started, including a survey sent to 30,000 audience members, interviews with artists and funders, and a number of focus groups which included existing audience members and people who have not attended the hall before.

BMT chief executive, Louise Mitchell, said: “The transformation of the Hall is a once in a generation opportunity to create a world-class centre for music that everyone in the city is proud of and somewhere that is open and welcoming to all.
“In order to achieve this, we’d like everyone who cares about music in Bristol to contribute to this creative consultation and help us shape a new vision for what the Hall can be, the role it can play in Bristol and the region.
“The name is more than a sign above the door; it must reflect what this new transformed building means to Bristol.”
To take part in the online survey, visit www.colstonhall.org/together-through-music. The survey opens at midday on November 14 and will close on December 12.
Community consultation days take place on January 31 at Redland United Reformed Church, February 4 at Easton Community Centre, February 5 at Knowle West Media Centre, February 7 at St Paul’s Learning Centre and February 12 at the Greenway Centre in Southmead.
