How Clifton was transformed into Notting Hill for Doctor Who

By Martin Booth  Friday Jan 20, 2023

New cast members Anita Dobson and Michelle Greenidge filmed their first scenes for Doctor Who in Bristol on Friday.

Millie Gibson, who plays Doctor Who’s new companion Ruby Sunday, was also filming scenes including one of her running after a black London taxi.

Clifton doubled for Notting Hill for one day only, with Bristol24/7 understanding that Tenby is the next location where Doctor Who filming will take place.

Road signs around Park Place, Bruton Place and Frederick Place had been changed with new names including Rouen Street, Forbridge Street and Minto Road.

Even bins had the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea written on them rather than Bristol City Council.

The ‘sold by auction’ sign outside the former Mr Swanton’s on Bruton Place had also been replaced with a ‘for sale’ sign from a fictional London estate agent.
