How ‘the greatest street in the country’ is celebrating the jubilee
Jubilee biryani, open mosques and churches and manhole painting can be enjoyed on one Bristol street in less than two week’s time.
To mark the Queen’s jubilee weekend, St Mark’s Road is set to host a community-led celebration – bringing together businesses, faith groups and people from all over the city.
The family-friendly event will be held from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, June 5, with craft, clothes, food and stalls being put on by 30 local companies.

A special ‘Queen’s jubilee biryani rice’ will be handed out for free during the celebrations, and attendees are invited to paint manholes red, blue and white.

The Jubilee party, organised by St Mark’s Road Community Group, will be one of the first street parties taking place on the road since the pandemic.
About the plans, organisers wrote: “It will be a great event that will highlight the work of the community spread out along the road with merchandise stalls and information hubs as well as food stalls – free tasters including a *Jubilee Biryani Special*, all along the pavements!
“BBQ food stalls and loads of stuff for the kids to do – Easton Jamia Masjid will host an open day celebrating Muslims in our city – pop in and find out who the first Bristolian Muslims were and those who made a contribution to our amazing city and country.”
Events have been organised up and down the country as Elizabeth II marks 70 years on the throne – the first time in British history that a monarch has reached the milestone.
In Easton, St Mark’s Road will not be closed to traffic, and organisers say stalls and activities will not encroach the road.
