Huge new M&S to replace House of Fraser in Cabot Circus
Marks & Spencer are returning to Bristol city centre with a huge new shop which will replace House of Fraser in Cabot Circus.
The department store has been at Cabot Circus since the shopping centre opened in 2008.
M&S are spending £21m on their new 80,000sq ft space which will sell food, clothes and beauty across three floors.
is needed now More than ever
In January 2022, M&S closed its shop in Broadmead after 70 years, with their new ‘flagship’ store in Cabot Circus expected to create some 150 new jobs.
Cabot Circus owners Hammerson have previously said they are hoping “to reposition and maximise the value of major spaces including the House of Fraser department store at the gateway to the asset and to replace the cinema operator as part of the development of a social and entertainment quarter”.
Cinema De Lux closed in December leaving a large gap at the heart of the shopping centre.
It is not yet known when House of Fraser will close and the new M&S will open in its place. Bristol24/7 has asked House of Fraser for comment.

M&S CEO Stuart Machin said: “It’s brilliant to be announcing our return to Bristol city centre today.
“At Cabot Circus, we’re able to create a flagship store which delivers the best possible shopping experience for customers and showcases the very best of M&S.
“Our store rotation programme is all about ensuring we have the right stores in the right place and with the right space to excite and inspire our customers, including in city centres.
“This £21m investment will allow us to do just that while expanding our footprint across the South West.”

Rita-Rose Gagné, CEO of Hammerson, added: “We are delighted to continue expanding our partnership with M&S in Cabot Circus, having seen the positive impact of their presence across our other destinations.
“M&S is a brand that resonates with our core catchment areas and this new store will support our strategy to create a leading destination, thriving at the heart of Bristol city centre.”
The former M&S in Broadmead is now Sparks, “a department store with a difference” co-created by Global Goals Centre and Artspace Lifespace featuring shops, installations and events on the ground floor, and affordable studios, rehearsal and performance space upstairs.
