Hundreds attend Grand Iftar on St Mark’s Road
Hundreds of people gathered on St Mark’s Road to break fast and share food in the annual Grand Iftar.
The event on Sunday evening was put on and supported by dozens of different local partners including Easton Jamia Mosque, Sweetmart and Pak Butchers, who have come together under the umbrella of St Mark’s Road Community Group.
It followed another Grand Iftar which took place in Bristol Cathedral on Thursday and was organised by Muslims4Bristol in partnership with the cathedral and Bridges For Communities.
is needed now More than ever
Speeches took place from a stage erected between the Thali and the mosque before scrolls were unfurled featuring the handwritten names of thousands of Palestinians who have been killed in the Israel-Hamas war.
There was also a minute’s silence to remember the victims of the war before prayers were said and the fast could be broken soon before 8pm.

Speaking from the stage, Rashid Majothi from Sweetmart said: “Thank you to everybody who has turned out. This event can only be successful with the turnout and the community put together and the wider community.
“If anything, this proves that we can all unite together in what we can achieve. And to me, it makes me really proud to see all the efforts that everybody has made.
“We also shouldn’t forget the people who are less fortunate than we are.”
