International Week at St George Primary School
The Chinese lion danced around the school hall eliciting shrieks of delight from pupils, as the room was filled with the sound of drums and cymbals.
The Matthew Class at St George Primary School at the foot of Brandon Hill were the first to perform in front of the whole school midway through the school’s International Week.
Soon after Tilly and Arabella took off their lion costume for a much needed rest, some of the other members of the class took part in a ribbon dance, delicately waving their sticks in large circles.

The Matthew Class, made up of reception and year 1 pupils, have been learning about Asia all week, with other classes looking at other continents.
“G’day mate!” some of the older students shout before playing small didgeridoos and handmade paper boomerang kazoos.
St George is the smallest primary school in Bristol, with a village school feel in the heart of the city, and the entire school community were in the hall where they joined in with the African singing.
The musical celebration came to an end with a Hawaiian hula dance:
International Week at St George has seen storytelling, language teaching, eating and cooking foods from across the world, and much more.
St George international coordinator Amelia Merrill said: “The children have found it brilliant so far. It gets them all excited and learning about entirely different things which they all love.”
