Journalists remember international colleagues killed in Gaza
At least 152 journalists and media workers have been killed in the Middle East since the beginning of the Israel-Gaza conflict, according to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
The IFJ is an international trade union which is affiliated with 187 unions across 140 countries, including the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the UK.
To mark UN Human Rights Day, members of the South West England branch of the NUJ gathered together at the Cascade Steps on Tuesday.

They gathered to remember and read out the names of those who have been killed – 138 Palestinians, four Israelis, nine Lebanese and one Syrian – since October 7 2023.
South West NUJ members also gathered last year, on December 17, to commemorate the then unprecedented number of journalists who had been killed by that point – 64 Palestinians, four Israelis and three Lebanese.
While the NUJ takes no formal position on the Israel-Gaza conflict, the small number of members who came together on Tuesday condemned the killing of journalists and called on the International Criminal Court to “step up” investigations into suspected targeted killings.
