Kerry McCarthy retains Bristol East
Kerry McCarthy has retained her Bristol East seat for Labour but her vote share has decreased almost by 8 per cent from 2019.
The Labour incumbent fought off stiff competition from the Green rival Ani Stafford-Townsend who became the candidate for the Greens after Naseem Talukdar stepped down citing family reasons.
“After 14 years of exile this is the sweetest victory,” she said after the declaration of results at Oasis Academy in Brislington in the early hours of Friday morning (July 5).
is needed now More than ever
Referencing to the landslide victory of Labour nationwide, McCarthy expressed her optimism for the future Labour government.
