Lego Gromit to join this year’s sculpture trail

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jun 25, 2018

A Gromit sculpture created from 30,456 Lego bricks and which took an expert team of builders at Lego’s headquarters more than 120 hours to create will be joining this summer’s Gromit Unleashed 2.

Cracking Build Gromit! will be located at Cabot Circus for the duration of this summer’s trail, which returns to the streets of Bristol from July 2 until September 2.

Lego vice president of design, Matthew Ashton, said: “Wallace and Gromit will always be a favourite of mine, so I am over the moon we have been given the opportunity to create our very own brick-built Lego Gromit for The Grand Appeal.

“The charity does so much to support sick children and babies at Bristol’s Children’s Hospital, and we’re delighted to help them raise vital funds for such an important cause.”

Other well-known names joining Lego to put their own spin on Gromit, Wallace and Feathers McGraw this summer are:

  • Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
  • Minions
  • PAW Patrol
  • Pixar
  • Star Trek
  • Swallows & Amazons
  • Wes Anderson

Director and screenwriter Wes Anderson will be providing Gromit with an Isle of Dogs makeover from his latest film, while the makers of Paw Patrol will be transforming Gromit into one of the characters from the popular Nick Jr show.

They will be joining a sculpture already revealed with a Crystal Maze theme with the popular Channel 4 filmed at the Bottle Yard Studios in Hengrove.

At the end of the trail, all of the 67 sculptures will be auctioned to raise money for The Grand Appeal to support Bristol Children’s Hospital.
