Alternative Olympics for Bedminster
Two days after the opening ceremony of Rio 2016, Make Sunday Special will return to Bedminster’s lower North Street for the alternative Olympic experience, the Bedmolympics.
Following last year’s move to spread the event around the city, August 7 is set to be Bedminster’s second time hosting the event.
Just like last time, go-kart style racing will be the centrepiece, with a “Cool Runnings” event planned for this year. Other activities include human table football, street games, arts and crafts, theatre, graffiti, frog racing, kids’ workshops and much more.
Lower North Street will be completely closed off to traffic for the event, with picnic tables, games, stalls and pubs spilling out into the road. Additionally, buskers will take up stations along the street, supplying a soundtrack for the day.
Simon Dicken, chairman of the Bedminster Town Team, said “Last year’s Make Sunday Special saw thousands of people gather on the streets of Bedminster to make one huge community event. The whole community and all the businesses get together to create entertainment and spill out onto the streets with food and drinks.”
