Man charged after bomb scare at Patchway police centre
A 43-year-old man has been charged after making an explosive substance that posed as a bomb threat.
The man, who has been named as Jason Lenton from Southmead, Bristol, reportedly walked into Patchway Police Centre’s enquiry office claiming he had a dangerous item in his possession.
The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were called to the South Gloucestershire police centre on Saturday 5 shortly after 5pm to examine the threat.

A 100-metre cordon was put in place, and staff were evacuated from the station as well as surrounding homes and businesses and a stretch of the A38 as a precaution.
The EOD concluded that the substance did not present a risk and residents were then able to return to their homes. The A38 road was reopened around 8:40pm after significant traffic delays.
Lenton was subsequently charged on Monday 7 in the early hours of the morning for making an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose and organising a bomb hoax.
In a statement from Avon and Somerset police, they said: “We’d once again like to thank the public who were affected by the cordon for their patience and understanding while the EOD attended.”
Following his charge, Lenton remained in custody and attended Bristol Magistrates Court on Monday 7.
