March through Bristol’s streets to fight for racial justice
Organisers of a major march taking place in Bristol city centre on Sunday say this time they want to make as much noise as possible.
It will be almost exactly three months since the protest that made headlines around the world when people take to the streets again to fight against racism and inequality.
The small group behind the series of protests say this is not a just a moment or “wave of black lives matter’ but a part of life as they vow to keep turning out and making their voices heard no matter how long it takes to implement change.
is needed now More than ever
The march taking place on Sunday, September 6, will be part of a national movement, with protests also taking place in London and Manchester. Starting on College Green from 1pm, the march will go through the city centre, ending with a rally in Castle Park.
Speaking ahead of the event, organisers from All Black Lives Bristol, said: “This Sunday, almost exactly three months after our first protests, every All Black Lives UK branch will be marching together nationally.
“We expect for even more attendees than the marches on June 7 now that lockdown has been eased more and students are returning to our not-so-glorious city, do not miss out on such a historical event.
“We ask you to show up with PPE as usual but this time we want to make as much noise as possible; bring instruments, bring sirens and bring your voices. Bristol will be shut down by us once again and we will be heard. Share this on your socials, spread the word and pull up this Sunday.
“There has been little to no change in the recent months and this is because change doesn’t happen overnight, we might be protesting every month for the next twenty years but it is absolutely vital to keep this conversation going and not let this become a moment. People are calling this a ‘wave of black lives matter’ but it is no such thing, this is part of our life- keep protesting and making a stand until we get what we demand.”
All Black Lives are demanding an end to racial discrimination in the criminal justice system, reform of the education system, an end to racial health disparities, implementation of recommendations from the reviews into racial injustice in this country and to stand with the black community in the US.
