Motivation launch national appeal

By Lowie Trevena  Tuesday Dec 3, 2019

Based in Bedminster, Motivation empowers disabled people in developing countries and is also at the forefront of new wheelchair technology.

To mark International Day of People with Disabilities on December 3 the charity has launched their All-Stars Appeal, which will support disabled children in Uganda to go to primary school.

The appeal will be aid matched by the UK Government, meaning that for every £1 donated to a UK Aid Match charity appeal by, the Government will also contribute £1 of UK aid.

The All-Stars Appeal has been launched on International Day of People with Disabilities to highlight the stigma surrounding disabled children in developing countries. This is particularly important in 2019, with the theme of the day, determined by the United Nations, is ‘the future is accessible’.

This message does not apply to the 91 per cent of disabled children in Uganda, however, who currently miss out on primary education due to discrimination.

The appeal aims to raise £240,000 and all public donations between 3 December 2019 and 3 March 2020 will be doubled by the UK Government. Money donated will go towards breaking the stigma surrounding disability through sports and games to show that disabled children can be included in school and in community life.

“All children have dreams, ambitions and a desire to succeed,” says Paralympian and Motivation trustee Jennifer Browning. “We believe that disabled children should be given an equal chance to show what they can do when given a chance to join in.

“We’re grateful to everyone who supports Motivation’s All-Stars Appeal. You will be helping us to level the playing field for generations of disabled people.”

In addition to raising funds on a national scale, the charity will be fundraising locally throughout the appeal, starting with a collection at the Bristol City New Year’s Day game on January 1, 2020.
