Much-loved charity Santa run moving to new location

By Sofia Al-Hussaini  Saturday Oct 15, 2022

An annual festive fun run for regional charity Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is moving to Charlton Farm in Wraxhall, the location of the hospice which will be receiving the proceeds.

The event sees hundreds of participants completing a 2km run in festive fancy dress to provide the hospice with the necessary funds to continue providing families with support throughout the festive season and following year.

Until 2019, the event was held in the harbour with thousands of individuals being given Santa costumes by the charity.

However, since the restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic led to the event being held virtually in 2020, with participants constructing their own festive ensembles, there have been many changes to the event.

Last year’s run took place in the grounds of Ashton Court with CHSW encouraging those taking part to fashion their own costumes to reduce the impact of single use Santa suits on the environment.

The changes to the event in no way limited its success, with almost 1,300 runners raising approximately £35,000 in 2021.

This year’s event will be taking place at Charlton Farm, Wraxall on Sunday, December 11, with waves of runners starting at 11am and 2.30pm.

The CHSW are also offering the opportunity to participate virtually, for those who are unable to attend in person.

Early bird tickets are £9 for over-16s, £4.50 for children and free for 0- 2-year-olds. They can be purchased until the October 17 on the CHSW website. Full price tickets are available until December 1 and cost £12 (16+), £6 (3-15 years) and free for 2 and under.

Tickets for the virtual event are available here.
