Mysterious planning application appears on Turbo Island

By Mia Vines Booth  Thursday Jul 28, 2022

A mysterious planning permission document has appeared on Turbo Island in Stokes Croft.

The planning permission notice would be hard to mistake for the real thing, if it were not for some rather outlandish proposals.

The notice, which was first spotted at the site on Thursday, July 28, begins by expressing proposals for the installation of stone paving, something which has been proposed by Bristol City Council earlier this week.

Things start to get slightly more peculiar later on, with proposals such as “addition of tiled in-ground concrete swimming pool”, and “mahogany decking, fire pit with multi-fuel barbecue, bar area”.

Other plans include “non-flammable seating” and “doggy play area” as well as “replacement of existing advertising billboard with cinema screen, digital projector and sound system”.

The plans also suggest the “erection of a temporary 15-metre wicker statue of former-HRH Prince Andrew”.

The owner of the planning permission application notice remains unclear. However the applicant is named as Wildstone Investments, a play on Wildstone, who currently own the billboard above Turbo Island.

The notice may be a commentary on the continuing debate over Turbo Island’s future, which has developed recently with the news that stone paving may be erected at the site to combat ‘anti-social’ behaviour.

Jamaica Street Stores also recently announced it would be shutting its doors, and have partially ascribed blame to the anti-social behaviour at Turbo Island.

Whilst the person responsible may not achieve their architectural dreams just yet, it would be thrilling to see the island be more accommodating to four-legged friends and maybe even the royals.

After much searching for the application on the Bristol City Council website, Bristol24/7 can confirm that the application is currently not on the council’s file.
