Name revealed for new Bottle Yard Studio facility in south Bristol
Hengrove’s Bottle Yard Studios is on track to open its new state-of-the-art facility in September in a move expected to create hundreds of jobs.
The £12m expansion will see the largest dedicated TV and film production site in the region take over Hawkfield Business Park with the creation of three new stages, increasing the total number available from eight to 11.
Less than half a mile from the main Bottle Yard site in Hengrove, the new facility will be named TBY2 and it is already taking bookings from September this year.
The site will also play host to serviced production offices, prop stores, construction workshops, costume and makeup and break-out areas.
Investment in the current site and new studio provision at Hawkfield Business Park is expected to create 863 jobs over the next ten years through a programme focused on high-end TV skills and developing new talent in south Bristol.
Speaking about the project earlier this year, Laura Aviles, senior film manager for Bristol City Council responsible for The Bottle Yard Studios and Bristol Film Office, said: “Upping The Bottle Yard’s stage count from eight to 11 at a time when space for filming is at a premium, means we can welcome more of the productions we know are keen to film in Bristol, a city that saw a 225 per cent increase in filming in the first quarter of the current financial year.
“We’re making sure Bristol seizes the opportunities presented by the UK production boom with both hands, so that local crew, companies and new generations of talent can reap the benefits in employment, business and skills development.”

Global construction specialists ISG were appointed by the council to carry out the work and Bottle Yard bosses say sustainability has been placed at the centre of the design and build process of the TBY2 site.
The plan is for energy supply for the facility to be supported by a large photovoltaic (PV) array, while there are promises transport between the main Bottle Yard Studios site and the TBY2 facility will be “carbon neutral, with electric vehicle points and ample cycling provision supporting low carbon movement”.
