Narroways to be closed for Bonfire Night
Volunteers who look after a popular nature reserve have taken the decision to close the area to revellers on Bonfire Night after last year’s November 5 celebrations got out of control.
An estimated 1,500 people descended on Narroways Local Nature Reserve on Guy Fawkes’ Night in 2021, with Narroways secretary Anna Spencer saying that taxis “jammed the local streets”.
Spencer said that events “got very scary with out-of-control people letting fireworks off into the packed crowd”.

The area in St Werburgh’s known as ‘the mound’ will now be closed on November 5 and also for future New Year’s Eves, in order to protect the space and the wildlife who live there.
“We are really sorry for locals who have enjoyed going up there for many years,” Spencer told Bristol24/7.
“But we are getting a lot of support from the local people, who say they treasure the nature reserve, don’t want it trashed again, and in any case they can’t enjoy the evening when it’s taken over by so many drunk people.”
