By Mia Vines Booth  Tuesday Mar 29, 2022

A bar, bowling alley and gaming venue is set to open in Bristol city centre come spring.

Leeds-based bar group Roxy Leisure has announced that it will open its newest Roxy Lanes on Union Street in May, replacing the recently-closed Fitness4Less gym.

The site will have a 350-person capacity and include eight bowling lanes, as well as batting cages, shuffle boards, karaoke booths, full size pool tables, beer pong, arcade games and ice-free curling.

Bristol is Roxy Leisure group’s 11th venue, a company that has successfully launched bowling lanes and ballrooms in Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Liverpool and Leeds. The group has big plans for 2022, hoping to expand to other cities with six new openings planned.

Self-proclaimed “professionals at play who bring the playground to the bar”, Roxy Leisure has applied to sell alcohol from 11am to 2.30am on Fridays and Saturdays and 11am to 1.30am from Sunday to Thursday. The venue will transform into a lively games bar during the evening.

Chairman of the company Mark McQuarter has held senior leadership roles in the hospitality sector including in Revolution, Barracuda Group and JD Wetherspoon.

Roxy Leisure’s commercial manager, Joel Mitchell, said: “Bristol is an exciting and vibrant city, full of creative individuals who love to have fun. We’ve been wanting to join the bustling nightlife here for a while; we’re excited about bringing our competitive gaming concept to a new audience.”
