New headteacher at May Park Primary School
Vanetta Spence has been named as the new principal of May Park Primary School as schools across Bristol prepare to welcome back students.
Spence had previously been interim headteacher at the Eastville school on secondment from her role as deputy head at Fairfield High School in Horfield, with both schools part of the same multi-academy trust.
She had joined Fairfield as an unqualified teacher after graduating in biochemistry from UWE Bristol before joining the Graduate Teacher Programme and later holding a number of positions in the school where she worked for more than 15 years.
is needed now More than ever
May Park chair of governors, Alan Gould, said that he was “delighted” to announce Spence’s permanent appointment.
He said: “Ms Spence has played a pivotal role in laying the foundations for rapid improvements in teaching, learning and making the most of our fantastic facilities at May Park.
“Her appointment is an acknowledgement of her leadership and dedication over the past two years. Her enthusiasm and motivation have helped the whole school team to rise to the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic.
“As we look forward to returning to near-normality, I am sure that the whole May Park family are as delighted as the local governors and the Trust that Ms Spence will be leading us through the next phase of our work to make May Park the school that we know it can be, and that our community deserves.”
