New home for award-winning youth charity

By Charlie Watts  Wednesday Mar 30, 2022

An award-winning youth charity that has been based in a former school for the last 17 years has moved into a new home.

Youth Moves’ new space is part of the redevelopment of The Park, a community centre which has been rebuilt next to its old building on Daventry Road in Knowle West.

The Park’s old building was occupied by Merrywood School until becoming a community centre in 2000.

It is now due to be demolished to make way for a new secondary school, the first in Knowle West in more than 20 years.

Youth Moves’ new premises includes a large open plan space, a recording and podcast studio, and a one-to-one room.

Ali Dale, CEO of Youth Moves, said: “We can’t wait to start working with young people there, making some new memories and bringing through the next generation of south Bristol young people.

“We continue to want young people from right across the community to come, try new activities and engage with our team of youth workers.

“It’s a great place, and is a safe space, for somewhere to go, something to do and always with someone to talk to.”

In two years’ time, Youth Moves is also set to take on another new building, as it has been selected to run a proposed new £8.4m youth centre. It plans on running this alongside its space at The Park.
