New investment for a safer Bearpit
The Bearpit is to benefit from a £112,000 investment aimed at making it a “safer, busier and more attractive” area.
Businesses within the Bearpit aim to achieve this by using food retail and targeted community events, with three existing social enterprises already coming to form a new community interest company (CIC).
The goal is to create a community hub within the area thanks to the investment from the Resonance Bristol SITR which was established to support social enterprises tackling poverty in Bristol.
is needed now More than ever
The newly formed Bearpit Bristol CIC is already promoting diversity and inclusivity, and also working with local and sustainable suppliers in a bid to adopt smart food practice.
An increase in trading activities hopefully will reduce criminal activity within the area, and create jobs and training programmes for the disadvantaged in the local community.
Resonance investment manager Katalin Juhasz said: “This is a great example for social enterprises that need investment to grow their impact.
“This kind of capital is an effective and appropriate source of investment for growing social enterprises like the Bearpit Bristol CIC, which is a revenue generating business with a clear social focus, taking on repayable capital on reasonable terms.”
Bearpit Bristol CIC’s Miriam Delogu added: “We are delighted at the quick and timely response from the Resonance Bristol SITR Fund, which has shown that they can align the investment to the need and speed of enterprises when it is required.
“We had worked hard to make sure we had the right structure for our business, namely a Community Interest Company, and our ambition is to showcase Bristol’s first ‘Community Action Zone’ – putting community and diversity at the heart of everything we do.”
