Nominate an inspiring Bristolian to be first to ride The Wave
The team behind Bristol’s much-anticipated inland surf lake are seeking nominations for people with the most inspiring stories to ride the first waves.
The ambitious £25m project that has been years in the making is finally set to open this November on the 77-acre site in Easter Compton, north of Cribbs Causeway, and competition for spaces is strong.
The Wave bosses want to offer the opportunity for the city’s ‘everyday heroes” to be the first to experience surfing the waves, which are generated by cutting-edge technology.
is needed now More than ever
“I’m often asked who is going to ride the first waves and people assume it will be me,” explains founder of The Wave Nick Hounsfield.
“I’ve always said that I don’t want it to be about me, and that there are many more deserving people. The Wave is about more than the individual – it’s about people coming together to share the joy of surfing and we want our first line-up to reflect that.
“We’re asking for nominations for inspiring people to ride our first public waves. We’re looking for ordinary people who have done extraordinary things, everyday heroes who have overcome big problems or individuals who’ve achieved something amazing.”
“The nominees don’t need to know how to surf, as we are looking for a range of people of all abilities, from complete novices to dedicated surfers. Whether their passion in life is surfing, or they’ve never stepped on a board before, we’ll make sure they have the best time surfing those first waves.”
People can nominate by posting a video on social media explaining who they are proposing and why, tagging @thewave and using the hashtags #FindYourWave and #Giveawave.
Alternatively, nominations can be made via the Wave website: www.thewave.com/nominate-someone-ride-our-first-waves-no-experience-required/.
Deadline for entries is Monday, September 30.
The Wave team will select the winners to be part of a special launch event at the end of October.
