Olympic heroes awarded with golden Gromits on surprise visit to Children’s Hospital
Izzy Thorpe and Kate Shortman made a surprise visit to Bristol Children’s Hospital after winning silver medals in artistic swimming at the Olympics.
They received a heroes’ welcome when they walked through the corridors of the hospital as the young patients greeted them wearing replica medals.
To mark the event in style there were silver streamers and flags in the corridors of the hospital as Izzy and Kate arrived.

Izzy Thorpe and Kate Shortman made a surprise visit to the Children’s Hospital on Tuesday
University Hospital Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust facilitated the pair’s visit.
Izzy and Kate were both given a golden Gromit during their visit.
Martin Gargan, clinical chair of women and children’s services, said: “There are two things in the world that money can’t buy: an Olympic medal and a golden Gromit.”
