Oowee Vegan’s supply of burgers exhausted within minutes

By Betty Woolerton  Friday Jan 14, 2022

After the strung-out chaos of their last burger giveaway, Oowee Vegan’s latest promotional event was a relatively smoother affair because it lasted minutes.

Held at Oowee Vegan’s birthplace on Baldwin Street, customers began queuing from 12.30pm and earlier to grab one of the popular burger business’ newest creations for free.

The vegan diner handed out parcels of pre-wrapped burgers in an orderly fashion and, with queues rapidly building up to reach around the corner to Castle Park, it took just five minutes for the plant-based goods to run out.

Oowee announced on Wednesday that they would be giving away 100 of their Flamin’ Hot Smash burgers at 1pm at each of their sites in the country.

Two days later, dozens of triumphant customers in the city centre clasped their burgers with glee, but others were quickly disappointed.

With a buzz of a drone covering the live action emanating from air, Oowee were forced to announce to the remaining line of punters that their supply of burgers was exhausted.

At 1.05pm, downcast queuers were instead handed 50 per cent off vouchers for Oowee’s new Beyond Cheeseburger Fries.

The diner is overwhelmingly popular in Bristol and beyond, having scooped Deliveroo’s ‘Restaurant of the Year’ and ‘Best Vegan Offering’ prizes in 2019.

The company has branches in London, Manchester, Brighton and Bristol.

Friday’s event was to promote their partnership with plant-based beef manufacturer Beyond Meat that sees the creation of a burger entailing two smashed Beyond Meat patties, American cheese, hot mayo and deep fried Jalapeños.

Oowee co-founder Charlie Watson said: “Veganuary is the time of year when many non-vegans decide to give the diet a go for the month, so we’ve really focused on creating a product that they will enjoy just as much, if not more than the very best animal meat alternatives.

“We’re really proud of this one, and can’t wait to see the reaction of meat eaters when they try the burger, as people are always so surprised at how realistic it tastes. It’s great to see people so excited about this innovative product.”
