Police & crime commissioner candidates confirmed

By Martin Booth  Monday Apr 8, 2024

Mark Shelford. Ever heard of him? He is the current Avon & Somerset police & crime commissioner (PCC) and he is up for re-election in a few weeks.

As well as voting for councillors across Bristol in the local elections on May 2, we will also have the opportunity to elect a new police & crime commissioner across the Avon & Somerset constabulary region.

Unlike councillors, being PCC is a full-time job with a salary of £88,600. Their main role is to hold the police force to account but they also have the power to hire and fire the chief constable.
