By Martin Booth  Tuesday Jun 4, 2024

Police have revealed more information about the largescale operation that took place in Kingsdown.

Several officers who attended King Square during the concern for welfare incident on Monday evening wore protective clothing as a precaution due to an unknown substance on a man.

Soon after 8.15pm, the man was detained by officers wearing white paper suits under the Mental Health Act and in order to make the area safe, and is now in the care of mental health services.

The unknown substance was later found to be household chemicals.

Avon & Somerset police neighbourhood inspector, Jon Scott, said: “We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while officers dealt with the incident.

“We would like to reassure people we are not aware of any ongoing risk to the public following yesterday’s incident, and we do not believe there was any intent to cause harm to the public.

“Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing team will be out providing high-visibility reassurance patrols in the area over the coming days.

“We encourage any members of the public with any concerns to speak with them.”
