‘Red Line March’ winds its way through Bristol

By Karen Johnson  Saturday Oct 26, 2024

A red felt cloth hundreds of feet long was carried through Bristol as part of the ‘Red Line March’.

Organised by Bristol Palestine Alliance, the march on Saturday was dedicated to 19-year-old Gaza student Shaban Al-Dalau, who according to reports was “burnt alive” when a hospital where he was being treated in was bombed.

The red line was symbolic of the boundaries – like that of Al-Dalau’s killing – that protesters claim have been crossed by Israeli forces.

Before the march started from College Green, a minute’s silence was held in remembrance of Al-Dalau, the several thousand killed in Gaza and Cookie Love McBride – a Bristol Palestine Alliance activist who sadly passed away on October 18 while on holiday.

Before the march, placards such as ‘Kier Starmer blood on your hands’ and ‘Our red line was crossed in 1948’ were placed near Bristol Cathedral, as several activists took turns speaking to the crowd.

A member of Bristol Palestine Alliance also taught the crowd a song dedicated to Palestine that was then sung through the course of the march.

The march went from College Green and through the city centre before finishing in Castle Park.
