Remembering James Kirby at solidarity rally

By Martin Booth  Friday Apr 5, 2024

Bristol aid worker James Kirby has been remembered at a rally in his home city.

The 47-year-old former soldier, better known as Kirbs, was working for World Central Kitchen in Gaza when the convoy he was in was hit by Israeli fire, killing seven people.

Taking place at the Cascade Steps, the rally in solidarity and remembrance was organised by the Bristol branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

It was held on the same day as the strike on vehicles which led to the deaths of the seven aid workers was called a “grave mistake” in a report by the Israeli Defence Force.

The IDF said a preliminary report into the attacks found the killings to be “in serious violation” of military procedure with two high-ranking officials sacked as a result and several others formally reprimanded.
