Shock at scale of Galleries redevelopment
There are more than 250 documents contained within the planning application for the redevelopment of the Galleries site.
“It’s hard to know where to start,” wrote a Bristol24/7 reader in an email to us.
But what they did find was the massing visualisations that give an indication of just how big the scheme could be.

Developers say that the Galleries scheme is a “once in a generation chance to reinvent, revitalise and modernise such a large part of the city centre”
In response to our reader’s concerns, a spokesperson for the development team said: “The application has now been in for a month and we’re pleased to see the comments coming in.
“As this is at the outline application stage, the design work has not started; this will be worked on in detail during the reserved matters stage.
“To give some examples of how the development could look, we’ve included an ‘illustrative scheme’ and set of CGIs to give a better interpretation of the potential development.
“We’d like to stress that the ‘block visuals’ show the maximum parameters for any future development to exist within.
“The proposals look to provide a major boost to the city centre, transforming the site into a much more diverse and landscape-rich environment, with homes and work space, a day and night-time destination, and a focus on community, place and bringing people back to the city centre.”
The spokesperson also sent Bristol24/7 a more detailed CGI of the scheme that is not included in the planning application:
The outline application is being brought forward by Bristol-based developer Deeley Freed together with LaSalle Investment Management
