South Bristol to become city’s second liveable neighbourhood project
Wider pavements, protected cycle tracks, pocket parks and modal filters are just some of the suggested improvements for Bristol’s second ‘liveable neighbourhood’ project.
South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood – covering the council wards of Bedminster, Southville and Windmill Hill – “aims to create a better balance between how streets are used for vehicles and people, making them safer, more pleasant, and healthier places to live”.
A consultation has now been launched, with the council keen to stress that liveable neighbourhoods “are designed in partnership with local communities to make it easier to catch a bus, walk or cycle”.

South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood follows the pilot project of the East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood which encompasses Barton Hill and parts of Redfield and St George.
Council leader Tony Dyer, who is also one of two Green councillors for Southville, said: “This project is about creating better neighbourhoods for everyone to live in.
“We want to cut down on rat-runs and through traffic to create safer streets for our children and make it easier and more pleasant to walk and cycle.
“South Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood represents a huge investment in the area, and we want everyone to have a say to help us develop the plans for the next stage.”
