South Bristol Link wins top industry award
The South Bristol Link has been open for less than four months and has already won an award from a leading UK transport institution.
The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) has named the 4.5km road their South West Transportation Project of the Year “for demonstrating excellence in planning and engineering”.

Judges praised how Bristol and North Somerset councils worked well with contractors Alun Griffiths to develop and build the road, which runs between the A370 in Long Ashton and Hengrove Park.
The award also noted how local people benefitted from its construction, with 49 local suppliers and 40 local people employed.
Three apprentice engineers worked on the project alongside five students on summer placements and two students from the UWE. Alun Griffiths also worked with Weston College to develop a groundworks apprenticeship scheme for six apprentices.
Dr Simon Dunn from Alun Griffiths said that the award is “a real acknowledgement of how we have demonstrated best practice and achieved excellence”.
Mark Bradshaw, Bristol City Council’s cabinet member for transport, added: “The long-awaited new road provides motorists with an alternative connection between south Bristol, the A38 and the A370. The new road has already taken traffic away from unsuitable residential roads.”
