Star Wars sculpture placed on Colston plinth
A battle droid from Star Wars has appeared early on Friday morning on top of the empty Colston plinth.
The sculpture is the work of Simon Francis Thomas, an artist and designer from Bristol.
The droid on the plinth seems to be reading something on the back of which is written ‘Star Wars celebration’ and a QR code that links to Thomas’ Instagram page.
is needed now More than ever
“If you are in central Bristol today pop by our Star Wars Celebration sculpture being displayed for 3 days on the controversial Colston statue plinth,” wrote Thomas on Instagram.
A statue of Darth Vader – played by Bristolian Dave Prowse in the movies – briefly appeared on the Colston plinth in December 2020.
