Date confirmed for mayor’s State of the City Address
As part of this year’s Bristol Festival of Ideas programme, mayor Marvin Rees will be putting forward his plan for Bristol in his State of City Address on Wednesday, October 17 2018.
The mayor will lay out his plans and promises for the coming year, which he will hope to achieve despite financial challenges that have seen the Labour leader rescind on cuts to library services and the special educational needs budget following overwhelming public pressure and a high court ruling. Of particular interest will be his plans for Bristol arena, following confirmation that it will not be built at the Temple Meads site.
Marvin Rees will use the annual address to discuss infrastructural transformations, environmental measures and transport, as well has his plans to make Bristol into a city where nobody gets left behind.

Other topics include tackling the housing crisis, and improvements to the adult and child services and social care. He will discuss advancements on long-term projects such as Bristol’s One City approach and the City Funds Board. He will also address how mayors of all cities, not just Bristol, can work together to overcome the lack of national governmental co-ordination.
Rees will be joined at the event by city poet Vanessa Kisuule, who will perform a new poem for the occasion.
The State of the City Address 2018 will take place at Wills Memorial Hall from 6.30pm on October 17. For more information, visit www.ideasfestival.co.uk/events/mayor-marvin-rees-2018
