Street given festive makeover ahead of Doctor Who filming

By Betty Woolerton  Saturday Feb 4, 2023

Wreaths, candy canes, Christmas trees, tinsel and fairy lights adorn the buildings in a corner of Bristol ahead of what is believed to be filming for Doctor Who.

Clifton’s Frederick Place has gone back in time to December with a resident confirming it is for filming of the much-loved BBC series taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It comes after Clifton doubled for Notting Hill for one day only in January with new cast members Anita Dobson and Michelle Greenidge filming scenes there.

There was no sign yet of cast, crew, vehicles, the Tardis or Timelord when Bristol24/7 visited on Saturday morning.

Filming for Doctor Who series 14 is currently in full swing. Ncuti Gatwa, who plays the Doctor, and companion Millie Gibson were been spotted in Wales in January.

The new series will follow on from a 60th-anniversary special which sees David Tennant and Catherine Tate, who filmed scenes in the Old City in June, back on screen.

Tuesday and Wednesday’s filming in Clifton could be for either of the two Christmas specials planned: one airing in 2023 and another in 2024.
