Stunning start to Bristol Balloon Fiesta

It was a perfect morning for the first mass balloon ascent for the 37th Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.

Some 120 balloon rose up from Ashton Court on Friday morning, including the world’s first solar balloon.

Around 120 balloons took off on Friday morning in perfect weather

The arena was packed as balloonists inflated the hot air balloons and jostled for positions to fly

 

Most balloons flew towards Bristol Airport but some lucky ones went towards the suspension bridge and the city centre

A big favourite of the fiesta this year is the Minion balloon

Dozens of balloons landed on Woodspring Golf Course – a surprise for early morning golfers

The world’s first solar balloon also took to the sky on Friday morning – find out how it was made and the inspiration behind it.

On Thursday night thousands of people turned out for the balloon glow to watch the balloons light up the night sky to music.
