By Betty Woolerton  Saturday Feb 17, 2024

A 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death has been named as Darrian Williams.

He was attacked in Rawnsley Park in St Jude’s on Wednesday evening by two people wearing masks who left the scene on bicycles.

Senior investigating officer detective inspector Neil Meade said: “We are working non-stop to fully establish the circumstances around Darrian’s death and we will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice.

“The loss of another young life is devastating and my thoughts are with Darrian’s family.

“I would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information so far and encourage anyone who has information but has yet to speak to us to do so as soon as possible.”

Two boys, both aged 15, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday evening and remain in police custody while enquiries are ongoing, Avon & Somerset Police added.

As part of a knife crime crackdown, police were granted additional powers to stop and search people while a new police operation targeting youth violence has also been launched.

Officers met headteachers on Friday to discuss police support before the return of pupils from half-term and the force said officers will be making extra patrols outside schools next week.

In a statement posted on the force’s website, a spokesperson said: “While formal identification has yet to take place, we believe the victim to be Darrian Williams (pictured).

“His family are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.”

The stabbing comes weeks of unrest in the city starting with the deaths of Mason Rist, 15, and Max Dixon, 16, who were stabbed in the Knowle West. Police said there is “no clear evidence” that the incidents are connected.

Witnesses of the St Jude’s attack are asked to report come forward via the Major Incident Public Portal: Public Portal or to call 101 and quote reference 5224039827 to the call hander. Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their Anonymous Online Form.
