Teenager who attacked man with baseball bat avoids jail
A teenager who attacked a man with a baseball bat in Bristol in broad daylight has avoided jail, instead being handed a suspended sentence.
The attack in the afternoon of June 24 followed a car chase which began in Knowle and continued along Marksbury Road and Wells Road before finishing close to Bedminster Bridge where a car travelling in the wrong direction crashed into a traffic light.
After the crash, 19-year-old Chaz Morgan was one of two people who chased the driver of the crashed car on foot along Commercial Road in Redcliffe, with the other man carrying a knife.

The driver managed to get into a stationary vehicle, but was attacked by the two men pursuing him, sustaining no injuries but receiving some marks to his body.
Morgan, of Shortwood Road in Hartcliffe, admitted charges of affray and possession of an offensive weapon at Bristol Crown Court.
He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and a 25-day rehabilitation order.
A second person who was arrested in connection with the incident was not charged due to insufficient evidence.

PC Andrew Smetham said: “This was a serious incident that happened in the middle of the day in Bristol and the CCTV footage shows the victim was fortunate not to be hurt.
“There can be no excuse for the violence Chaz Morgan showed on this day and it is right he has been brought before the courts.
“We are grateful to the witnesses who called police on the day and also assisted us with our subsequent enquiries.”
