Three men arrested so far after Lawrence Hill murder
A police cordon remained around a large part of Lawrence Hill on Friday as police carried out door-to-door enquiries and a meticulous search of the area.
An 18-year-old man from Bedminster was murdered at around 6pm on Thursday evening, with a white tent erected on Hassell Drive.
Three men have so far been arrested and remain in police custody. A man aged 19 was arrested on suspicion of murder after requiring hospital treatment for his injuries. Two teenage boys have also been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of the 19-year-old.
is needed now More than ever
Despite no confirmation of the cause of death, Avon & Somerset police’s major crime investigation team has launched a murder investigation, with forensics teams in white suits seen on Hassell Drive while uniformed officers searched nearby Newtown Park.
Bristol commander, superintendent Mark Runacres, told Bristol24/7 that the cordon will remain in place for as long as is necessary.
Runacres said that investigators are trying “to understand, if we can at this stage, what’s gone on, what’s caused this incident, any issues that existed amongst or within the group that was involved, and also beyond that, to then identify any risk of any associated issues developing so we can take steps with our partners to try to mitigate that risk and avoid any repeat”.
The Bristol commander says that a “significant” number of officers have been committed to this enquiry, with the murder coming just one month after a double murder in Easton and a domestic murder in Hartcliffe later that same week.
Runacres said that this murder was caused by “violence perpetuated on the street involving young people, which is a significant risk (and) an issue nationwide, and clearly it is in Bristol as well”.
