Traffic lights out-of-order after vehicle collision

By Karen Johnson  Thursday Sep 26, 2024

All traffic lights at a busy junction near Cabot Circus are out-of-order after a car crashed into one in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Traffic is currently being navigated manually by police officers, as engineers try to fix the lights.

While the male driver was rushed to the hospital, his injuries are believed to be neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

There is currently only one traffic closure in place on Bond Street South

The police were called at 5am, after which fire and ambulance services also rushed to the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police went on to close the A4044 between the Bearpit and Cabot Circus and the A4032 between the M32 and Cabot Circus.

All roads have now been opened up, but a closure remains in place on Bond Street South for vehicles turning into Newfoundland Circus towards the M32.

A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police told Bristol24/7: “We were called at 5am to reports of a single-vehicle collision on Bond Street South, near Cabot Circus.

“The vehicle collided with a traffic light which has affected all the traffic lights at the junction.

“Most of the roads have since reopened with traffic being manually controlled while engineers continue repairs to the traffic lights.

“However, a closure remains on Bond Street South for vehicles turning right onto Newfoundland Circus (A4032) towards the M32.”
