Travellers arrive on Horfield Common

By Karen Johnson  Wednesday Jun 5, 2024

A group of Travellers say that they are passing through Bristol on their way to Cornwall.

Around a dozen caravans and campervans arrived on Horfield Common on Wednesday morning and remain parked close to the Ardagh.

The vehicles belong to mostly Irish Travellers with some people telling Bristol24/7 they are from Belgium.

Most of the families are travelling with children and pets.

Green Party councillor for Bishopston & Ashley Down, Emma Edwards, said: “We were made aware this morning and immediately informed the council’s GRT (Gypsy, Roma, Travellers and Boatpeople) officer, who is now aware of the situation and is visiting the vans.”

Edwards added: “We can assure people that the situation is being looked at and processes are taking place. We have asked officers to keep us informed of any developments.”
