Two hospitalised after football team’s minibus overturns

Two people have been hospitalised after a minibus carrying Roman Glass Football Club players and staff overturned on Friday night.

The bus was on its way home to Bristol from a match against Longlevens in Gloucestershire when it was involved in a crash with three cars on Old Gloucester Road, Alveston, at around 11.20pm.

Police believe two of the vehicles, both Mitsubishi Outlanders, were stolen.

One person was arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing to locate two other people who left the scene before police arrived.

The accident has left the club, which plays in the Hellenic League Premier Division and is said to be Bristol’s oldest football team, “deeply upset and concerned”.

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Roman Glass said: “Everyone connected with Roman Glass St George FC are deeply upset and concerned for those involved, whilst thankful that none of the injuries are life threatening, or life changing, Our thoughts and best wishes are with all involved in this unfortunate and unnecessary incident.

“We wish everyone a speedy recovery and will offer support in any way possible to all members of the Glass Family.”

Avon and Somerset Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a four-vehicle collision in Alveston last night (Friday 7 October).

“Emergency services were called to Old Gloucester Road, off the A38, at around 11.20pm to the collision which involved three cars and a minibus.

“Two people were taken to hospital with suspected broken bones. No injuries are thought to be life-threatening or life changing.

“One person was arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing to locate two other people who left the scene before police arrived.”
