Two jailed for assisting offenders after murders of Max and Mason

By Karen Johnson  Wednesday Dec 18, 2024

Two men have been jailed for more than five years after they pleaded guilty to assisting the murderers of teenagers Max Dixon and Mason Rist in Knowle West.

Jamie Ogbourne of Hartcliffe and Bailey Wescott of Whitchurch were both sentenced for two counts of assisting an offender.

On the night of the murders of Max and Mason in January, both Ogbourne and Wescott helped the murderers, who cannot be named because of their ages, clean the murder weapons.

Shortly afterwards, 23-year-old Wescott was captured on CCTV starting a fire in the backyard of a Hartcliffe property which was used to burn clothes.

Ogbourne, 27, provided shelter to two of the five offenders at his own house and helped them with money and a phone.

The two men had earlier given “false accounts” in an attempt to deny their involvement in the aftermath of the murders of the best friends, who were callously attacked in a case of mistaken identity.

Ogbourne and Wescott were both sentenced to five years and three months in prison when they appeared at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday.

After the sentencing, Avon & Somerset Police deputy superintendent Gary Haskins said: “Ogbourne and Wescott, two adults, came to the aid of the four teenage defendants and attempted to cover the murderers’ tracks by cleaning the weapons and disposing of clothes.

“They knew what they were doing and the implications of their actions.”They showed no regard for the lives lost by attempting to help the defendants get away with their crimes.

“I hope their sentence shows the severity of what they did, and why we will make every effort to hunt out anyone who aids and abets crime to take place.”

Of the five people previously found guilty of the murders of Mason and Max, Antony Snook was sentenced in November with four others due to be sentenced on Thursday.

Snook, 45, facilitated as the “getaway driver”, driving the four others from Hartcliffe to Knowle West.

Two other people who have been charged with assisting the offenders are due to appear in court in 2025.
