Two teenagers arrested after fatal stabbing

Two teenage boys have been arrested following the death of a 16-year-old boy on Wednesday evening.

The two 15-year-old-boys were arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday evening as part of the police’s ongoing investigations.

Officers were called by the ambulance service to West Street, in the Old Market area of Bristol, at 6pm on Wednesday following a report of an injured boy. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene.

Detectives said the attack had happened in Rawnsley Park, in nearby Easton. While formal identification has not yet taken place, the victim’s family has been informed

Bristol superintendent Mark Runacres, said: “The team investigating yesterday’s incident are working around the clock to bring those responsible to justice.

“This evening, two 15-year-old boys were arrested in connection with the investigation and they have been taken to police custody where they will be questioned.

“Our collective thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during what is undoubtedly a very difficult time.

“Specialist family liaison officers have been assigned to the family to provide them with support and keep them updated on the investigation.”

On Thursday, the police announced a new “proactive operation” dedicated to tackling and disrupting serious violence and knife crime involving young people.

A spokesperson for the police said: “The Major Crime Investigation Team, which is leading the inquiry, is keen to hear from anyone who might be able to help their investigation.

“Alternatively, you can also contact us via phone by calling 101. Please provide the call handler the reference number 5224039827.”
