Underfall Yard walkway reopens to public

Members of the public are able to walk through Underfall Yard almost one year since a devastating fire ravaged through the historic boatyard.

Underfall Yard was a bustling hive of activity for master craftspeople at work building boats using traditional methods.

But a fire on May 6 destroyed much of the site, including workplaces, the main boatbuilding shed and several small boats.

In November, a serial arsonist was handed a life sentence after admitting to deliberately starting the fire.

Work is underway to repair the historic site

The historic boatyard has slowly been reopening to visitors as work continues to rebuild what was lost.
