Unsung heroes enjoy balloon rides as Fiesta curtain-raiser

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Aug 6, 2024

Some of Bristol’s unsung heroes were given balloon rides as a curtain-raiser to the Balloon Fiesta.

Locations for the special community launch programme were meant to be across the city, but due to weather conditions the flights took off from Ashton Court on Tuesday morning.

People given rides were recognised for their exceptional contributions to their communities, whether through acts of kindness, bravery or inspiring others.

Ben Hardy, executive director of Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, which returns to Ashton Court from Friday to Sunday, said that he was “delighted” to be able to celebrate “the incredible individuals who make Bristol such a vibrant and compassionate city”.

Hardy said: “This initiative not only highlights our city’s heroes but also brings the magic of the Fiesta closer to the heart of our communities.”
