What’s so special about Wapping Wharf?

By Bristol24/7  Friday Jun 4, 2021

2021 marks the second year running that Wapping Wharf has been named best address on Bristol’s harbourside by the Sunday Times’ Best Places to Live guide, with the harbourside itself listed among the best places to live in the South West. So, what’s so special about Wapping Wharf’s flourishing community?

As part of Wapping Wharf Living’s partnership with Bristol 24/7’s Better Bristol campaign, Bristol 247 videographer Aphra Evans paid a visit to the area to find out what all the fuss was about. With over 95 per cent of the 163 new apartments being built as part of phase two of Wapping Wharf Living already snapped up (some subject to contract), and the city having taken the neighbourhood’s ever-growing community of independent businesses to its heart, this vibrant corner of the city has an exciting story to tell.

Pauline Sangster, residential sales director at Muse Developments, which is delivering Wapping Wharf Living in a joint venture with Umberslade, said: “It’s so exciting to hear that Wapping Wharf has been included in the Sunday Times’ Best Places Live guide for the second year running as part of its spotlight on the wonderful Bristol harbourside. It’s testament to the unique community of independent businesses that call Wapping Wharf their home and its fantastic location on Bristol’s iconic Floating Harbour. We are also hearing from buyers that the opportunity to access outside space, either on their doorstep or within their apartment, has moved up the agenda this year and Wapping Wharf Living is perfectly placed to accommodate this need.”

Residents have started moving into their new homes at Wapping Wharf Living phase two, continuing the growth of this much-loved neighbourhood. The one, two and three-bedroom apartments have an industrial wharf-like exterior, with many including balconies or terraces. Meanwhile, the finishing touches have recently been made as part of work to carefully restore Bristol’s early 19th century, Grade II listed Gaol Gate, which now marks a new public entrance to Wapping Wharf.

Holly Williams and her partner Charlie Mallock moved into their new apartment at Wapping Wharf Living last month. Holly, 23, a children’s nurse at Bristol Children’s Hospital, says she and Charlie, also 23, chose Wapping Wharf because of its fantastic location. “We just love coming back from work and having a drink outside,” says Holly, “Either at one of the great little bars and restaurants at CARGO, down by the water in front of Wapping Wharf or on our own balcony which overlooks a lovely internal courtyard.”

Holly says the apartment itself is everything they wanted in a new home: modern, light and open but comfortable and cosy at the same time. “Our apartment is fantastic – we’re loving the big windows in the living room and bedroom which make it really light and airy. It’s much more spacious than the last places we’ve lived in and the best thing is it’s all one big living area, which is exactly what we wanted. It makes it much more sociable – you can be cooking dinner and having a chat at the same time.”
