By Martin Booth  Friday Sep 29, 2023

Brave members of the public helped detain a woman who was later arrested on suspicion of murder following a man being stabbed in St Paul’s.

The man, believed to be his 60s, was taken to hospital where he later died, with the woman in her 30s first arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent before being arrested on suspicion of murder and remaining in custody.

Much of the police activity on Friday afternoon appeared to be taking place inside the Rastafari Culture Centre on Grosvenor Road.

Police were called to the scene at 3.19pm on Friday afternoon, with there due to be an increased police presence in St Paul’s while enquiries continue into the suspected murder.

Neighbourhood chief inspector Deepak Kenth said: “This is very sad news. I would like to thank members of the public that came to the victim’s assistance.

“Our neighbourhood officers will carry out uniformed patrols of the area as we continue our work with the community, the council and other partners to tackle violence on our streets.”
