YouTuber visits Bristol’s ‘disgustingly expensive’ car park ‘that smells of piss’
A YouTuber who specialises in automotive adventures has visited a car park “right in the middle of car-hating Bristol” to test its online reviews against reality.
Jon Jefferson of Auto Shenanigans takes a drive into Rupert Street car park, which has variously been described on its Google listing as “frightening”, “eye-wateringly expensive” and with a “bad smell from the pee everywhere”.
Auto Shenanigans is a channel with more than 120,000 subscribers, who have previously seen Jefferson discover the secrets of the M32 and visit Yate’s ‘road to nowhere’.

During the video, Jefferson measures the NCP car park’s long ramp to see if it is as long as the half-mile claimed.
That ramp and the car park itself could soon be confined to the history books, with plans to demolish Bristol’s first ever multi-storey and build in its place hundreds of flats and student accommodation.

“At the time, the design was fresh, modern, chic and stylish,” Jefferson says. “But today it’s none of those things and I’m sure Bristol can’t wait to get rid of it.”
One hour’s car parking here costs £3.95, which is “a bloody rip-off” according to Jefferson.
“But you’re right in the middle of Bristol, what can you expect? Anyway, who wants to be here? No-one.”
So what about the car park’s odour? “It’s not much of a looker, it’s fair to say. But it doesn’t smell that bad. It’s certainly not the worst.”
In conclusion, Jefferson says that the car park “is not quite the crime-ridden piss-hole that the reviews would have you believe, or at least it certainly wasn’t on my visit. It is a bit expensive though.”
