My Bristol Favourites: Alex Lucas
Alex Lucas is an illustrator and artist whose quirky and humourous work can be seen across Bristol, including on the side of her own home in Montpelier (above). Alex organises community events such as Picton Street Winter and Summer fayres, and co-founded The Little Shop on Cheltenham Road which hosts a range of artists every six to eight weeks. Some of her work is on display at Gallery Twenty Two on Stokes Croft until June 10.
Here are Alex’s top-five Bristol favourites:
Montpelier
is needed now More than ever
“I love the melting pot that is my neighbourhood of Montpelier. There are so many amazing characters there. It’s a really nice atmosphere where the people who live there are so accepting of each other.”
You can eat anything
“You name it, we have it in Bristol! I love that you have so much choice when it comes to food. From glorious home-cooked fare to spectacular fine dining.”
‘Can do’ attitude
“I really feel that we are not afraid of getting off our arses and doing stuff in Bristol. We are good at helping each other out and getting involved!”
Loads going on
“You are spoilt for choice in Bristol, there is so much going on all the time! It’s hard to choose sometimes. Music, theatre, art, dance, it’s all there.”
(The above video is the last few moments of Of Runners & Riding Horses, part of this year’s Mayfest)
Independence
“I love that Bristol has such an independent spirit. We have some great independent pop-up shops, bars, restaurants, and events.”
