These are Boca 45’s top-five Bristol favourites:

Ashton Gate Stadium

“The home of the (not so) mighty Bristol City FC. I’ve had a season ticket at Ashton Gate for as long as I can remember. I jokingly refer to it as ‘Mecca’ to my friends and family. It’s changed quite a bit since I started going there in the mid-80s (moisturised) but it still has a real charm. As a team, Bristol City are serial let downs but it’s the start of the season and as we do each year, we start with blind optimism. I love this place.”

The Moorish Cafe

“There are so many amazing independent food spots to check and try out within St Nick’s Market but the Moorish Cafe is my absolute go-to. I have the veg tagine every time (without carrots) and go there every other week with my good mate Ben. The friendliest people own it and the portions are huge!”

The Avon Packet.

“I grew up in BS4 (Brislington), pre-kids lived in BS3, had kids moved back to BS4 (Knowle). Now we’re back in BS3 and our local is the Packet. Although there are more Gastro pubs on North Street, my wife and I love to go there at least once a week. I have a Guinness, which is amazing and reasonably priced at £3.50. And my wife has a little bottle of lady petrol (prosecco). There’s ciders for days and key rings and all sorts behind the bar from yesteryear. This pub is a proper Bristol boozer like the ones you remember from back in the day. It has a huge garden for the summer and a fire in the winter. Wicked place!”

Henleaze Lake

“I’ve been lucky enough to have made it here a few times this year as friends are members. This is an absolute oasis in the middle of the city. Perhaps I’ll send this to them and they’ll let me buy a season ticket for next summer!”

Friendly Records

“My great friend Tom set up Friendly Records on North Street eight years ago. It’s a brilliant little record shop and the only one in south Bristol. But it’s more than that: it’s a lifestyle thing. There’s tonnes of brilliant merchandise as well as its own record label. I liked it so much that I invested in it a year ago as Tom was struggling to work out which way to turn with it. Between Tom, me and Billy (Beak bassist), we’ve got it rocking again!”
